Running on empty

Weird!

Today I was reading a book lying on my bed.  I got a bit bored of the book, so decided to check my facebook on my phone.  there was a really horrible message from someone I went to school with and barely know, she was going to report me to facebook but i wasn’t too sure why. I decide to go downstairs and as I walk past the glass a see a figure walking on the other side, I don’t know who it but I know it’s not good, I started to think something bad is gonna happen. After that I am spinning round and round and I can’t stop, I feel totally out of control and overwhelmed with the bad feeling – Finally I stop and I know I have to make it to my phone to call my mum and let her know I’m going round the bend and can’t stop and also some unimaginable, horrific thing is going to happen very soon.  I keep seeing things out the corner of my eye but when I look they’re gone!  Something is after me and it’s not going to stop until I’m gone. What the hell is going on?  I can hear voices and the feeling of terror is now all-consuming me.  Somehow I make it to the kitchen and find my phone, I find my mums number and dial, I am frantic now, as it’s ringing I am bursting to tell her to come and save me, get some help, do something.  I hear her voice “Hello”  she answers.  I can’t speak!  I try again, I’m opening my mouth but I have no voice whatsoever, not even a croak.  she says hello again, I put everything into it this time…..Nothing.  That’s it I’m doomed.

For anyone who has ever had sleep paralysis, you will know that it’s one of the most terrifying experiences you can imagine.

I remember when I was young and first had sleep paralysis, waking up in the middle of the night after a bad dream, scared to death and instinctively trying to sit up but not being able to move, completely panicked and freaked out by this, I tried to do the next best thing, which is shout for my mum or dad, but this time i couldn’t speak.  So I was awake, scared to death but unable to move or speak, eventually I would come around to full consciousness and be back to normal.  I actually wasn’t awake when this was happening, but I wasn’t asleep either and I was at that weird in-between stage when your brain is awake but not yet full connected to your  body so the messages to move don’t get through.

I’ve always had a huge gap between being asleep and awake and seem to spend a lot of time hanging out in the space in-between.  Anyway a few years I discovered that sleep paralysis only happens to me when I fall asleep on my back, so obviously I never sleep like that. Except for today when I fell asleep reading my book. That’ll teach me!
